About Calgary International Airport
More than 12 million passengers pass through Calgary International Airport every year, making it one of the busiest airports in Canada. The airport primarily serves Calgary, the largest city in the province of Alberta and one of the most populous cities in the country.
The airport is located about ten miles north of downtown Calgary. Adjacent to the airport is the Deerfoot Mall, a major shopping center which has more than 80 stores including major anchors Sears and Walmart.
The present day site of Calgary Airport originally opened as a small airfield in 1938, which eventually served the Canadian effort in World War II. The modern terminal building was opened in 1977, and it has seen major expansions since. Today, Calgary International Airport includes an array of facilities to accommodate passengers in its multi-level terminal. There are eight exclusive airline lounges, dozens of shops and restaurants, free wireless internet access, pharmacy, currency exchange, and much more.
